Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News two year later. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as The Iran Contra affair. She travelled extensively together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
